SPACE4Cities Kickoff in Helsinki

SPACE4Cities project officially started in February 2024. The project was sent off to a flying start in kickoff in Helsinki hosted by Forum Virium Helsinki on February 8th and 9th.

Project partners got to enjoy snowy Helsinki and Suomenlinna World Heritage Site and exotic Finnish winter experience by taking a dip in Allas Sea Pool open air swimming pool and warming themselves in the sauna.

All of the project partners apart from RDFA were able to join, since RDFA’s members had to cancel their on-site participation at the last minute due to strikes in European airports.

The main item in the kickoff agenda was the initial workshop on identifying problems and use cases that the SPACE4Cities is looking to solve. Our technical experts presented possibilities of satellite remote sensing and location data technologies comparing them to other methods that could complement the use of satellites.

Project partners and Project Officer introduced themselves, sharing their role in the project as well as their motivations and expectations joining the project. Partners also agreed on administrative topics and connected action points and deliverables to the project timeline as well as setting rules for coming Pre-Commercial Procurement to ensure a well-functioning and successful project.

With such a kick off behind us, our project team is looking forward to putting EU’s public and private satellite services in use for more functional and sustainable European cities!
