SPACE4Cities’ Open Market Consultation period receives tremendous engagement across Europe

The SPACE4Cities project’s Open Market Consultation (OMC) ended in November with remarkable achievements, especially in terms of stakeholder engagement.

During more than five months, our Open Market Consultation activities attracted almost 500 different organisations and 1500 interactions, such as webinar attendances.

Suppliers

Potential suppliers were mostly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs): 33%, start-ups (companies founded less than 5 years ago): 25%, public and private research and technology organisations (RTOs): 21% as well as large companies or non-profit organisations (NGOs)

These 430 organisations came from all over Europe and beyond, representing 35 countries that you can see on the map below – excluding USA, Canada, Japan and Ethiopia, that are not been displayed.

Industries

Regarding expertise and skills, most potential suppliers declared having experience in Earth observation: 44%, in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS): 6% and 24% in both technologies. Only a fifth of interested suppliers are not space applications specialists.

We are extremely grateful for everyone's participation. However, as a supplier, the best is yet to come: our Call for tenders will be published on 15 January and it will stay open until 9 April 2025.

Most recurring words when participants were asked about their activities.

Resources for Call for Tenders

If you still need more information about our past activities, that provide you with useful resources for the Call for tenders, let us share all the most relevant links here:

We would particularly like to thank the hundred suppliers who responded to the OMC Supplier Survey (now closed). We received insightful points that are currently being studied in order to fine-tune the requirements of the Call for tenders.

Follower and Replicator Cities

Proving the large interest for SPACE4Cities also on the demand side, our Open market consultation activities also attracted around 70 European public sector organisations (PSOs) at local, regional and national level. Thirty of them were local authorities like cities and regions that could benefit from our upcoming activities.

European Satellite Data Solutions

Two of our Open market consultation objectives are now completed, i.e.:

  • to ensure the feasibility of the requirements and selection criteria and
  • to engage with a large number of suppliers.

The third main objective of the OMC is to study the state-of-the-art of Copernicus and Galileo solutions used to address urban challenges. If you are interested in discovering our findings on the state of the market, do not miss the Open Market Consultation Report that will be published at the end of January 2025.

If you already haven’t, please subscribe to our newsletter to receive the report on your email! We will also keep you posted on SPACE4Cities' Call for tenders, opening in January 2025!
