Webinar for Cities 4 | Discover 5 Space-Based Urban Innovations for Mobility and Emissions

20 innovative solution ideas have been selected from over 140 applications for further development and funding in SPACE4Cities Innovation Competion. These solutions target some of the most pressing challenges cities and regions face—leveraging satellite data and space technologies to drive real-world impact. This session will showcase five of the twenty innovative solution concepts developed by leading European experts and organisations for Mobility and Emissions.

Date and time: Thu 26th June, 13:30-15:00 CEST (14:30–16.00 EEST)

Session 4: Mobility and Emissions

Cities face mounting pressure to reduce emissions and transition to more sustainable energy and transport systems. Urban mobility remains a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, but the broader energy landscape—including infrastructure, consumption patterns, and renewable deployment—is equally critical. Rapid urbanisation, inefficient transport networks, and legacy energy systems make it difficult for cities to meet climate targets and manage their environmental footprint.

Satellite data offers a powerful lens to support this transition, providing insights into traffic flows, urban sprawl, and pollutant concentrations, while also enabling environmental impact assessments of energy infrastructure, renewable energy site selection, and potential forecasting. By combining these capabilities, satellite-enabled solutions help cities identify emission hotspots, evaluate low-emission zones and public transit strategies, and plan for a cleaner, more energy-resilient future.

This session will showcase five of the twenty innovative solution concepts developed by leading European experts and organisations, currently being advanced with support from the SPACE4Cities project. Each solution is designed to address, in their own unique way, the above-presented urban challenges using satellite data and geospatial insights. Participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with the innovators, ask questions, and offer feedback—helping to shape the relevance and impact of these tools for cities and communities across Europe.
